I am a writer and teacher, currently at Stanford University in the Department of Political Science, the McCoy Family Center for Ethics in Society, and the Stanford Civics Initiative.
My philosophical and literary work have been recognized with several awards, including the Leo Strauss Award, the Robert Noxon Toppan Prize, the Bowdoin Prize, and the Thomas Morton Memorial Award for Literary Excellence. A sampling of my publications can be found on the writing page.
My book The Right to Oblivion: Privacy and the Good Life was published in October 2024 by Harvard University Press. So far it’s received some really wonderful, thoughtful engagement, including in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Harpers, and Contemporary Political Theory. I two other books in the works: another work of philosophy about artificial intelligence and the value of being a stranger, and a novel called The Foreigners, about which more soon.
At Stanford, I teach courses on the ethics and politics of artificial intelligence, privacy and surveillance, and social and political theory.
